Proverbs 23:18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
Expectation is also referred to as hope. Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Zechariah 9:12 describes Christians as prisoners of hope.
Either expectations or hope, they are reflecting events or occurrence that is beyond our grasp, as it is dependent on the future.
Three elements of life are our yesterday, today and tomorrow. Yesterday is buried and we are in today, to take advantage of and prepare for tomorrow. Many times, we allow the redundant yesterday to interfere in our today. A lot of times, we allow the coming tomorrow to intrude in our today.
Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Matthew 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
The expectation of the wicked is disappointment. Proverbs 24:22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both? Psalm 73:17-19 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou casted them down into destruction. How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. Esther 6:4-10. Daniel 6:3-28.

You must ensure that you don’t harbour evil expectations.
It is good to have expectations: SPIRITUAL EXPECTATIONS

  1. One of the fundamentals of Christianity is that ultimately, we shall sit in heaven with Jesus. It is the expectation of every child of God that we shall all one day be accepted in the heavenlies, and behold the beauty of God. Every Christian must be looking forward to make heaven. Jesus painted a good picture of what to expect. John 14:2-‬3 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
  2. It’s our expectation that we are entitled to the promises of God. Ephesians 1:3-22
  3. Our expectations are that our prayers will receive answers. Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. John 14:13-‬14 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
  4. We expect that our faith in God will be validated. Philippians 1:20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. Isaiah 43:21 This people have I formed for myself to show forth my glory.
  5. We expect that the directions of God will lead eventually to success. Psalm 32:7-8 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
  6. We expect that our waiting on God shall not be in vain. Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

FINANCIAL EXPECTATIONS
Deuteronomy 15:6 For the Lord thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee. Psalm 126:6 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

Why there may be delay:

  1. The Prince of Persia Daniel 10:12-13 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
  2. When your faith has not prepared to receive your expectation. Expectation is the womb of manifestation.
  3. If you are working against the manifestation. Wanting your will rather than the will of God.
  4. If you disregard the vessel God is using to bring about your expectation. 2 Kings 5:10-‬11 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

HOW GOD WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS
He will surpass your expectations. Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
The outcome shall be glorious: Ecclesiastes 3:11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time.
Look forward to good.
Whatever your expectation is, will come to reality. Job 3:25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
No parallel expectations: Matthew 6:1-2 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Do not expect good and concentrate on doing the opposite. Peter and the disciples expected spiritual empowerment, but went back to fishing. John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
Whatever you sow, you shall reap. Galatians 6:7-‬9 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.‬‬‬‬‬
Develop the capacity for your expectations.

Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
Psalms 143:10
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
1 John 2:15-‬17 ‬‬
